Well, the highly anticipated first season of Bobby Petrino is finally here as the Razorbacks take on Western Illinois tomorrow at Fayetteville.

I predict this will not be a pushover game for the Hogs. Remember, Arkansas is rebuilding and Western Illinois was 9-2 last year and played in theĀ NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) playoffs. They have 1,400-plus yard rusher and All-American senior running back Herb Donaldson.

One thing is certain, Arkansas will be an exciting team in 2008. I really think they have something to prove to the college football world and so does berated head coach Petrino.

Here’s a preview from ArkansasSports360.com.

Prediction: Hogs will Surprise

August 23, 2008

I just finished reading Derek Jenkins’ column in the Arkansas Times from August 21, “Seven predictions for 2008.” Read it here.

For the most part, I agree with Jenkins. The Razorbacks will be a very entertaining team this season. How much of that entertainment will result in wins, I do not know. Because the Hogs will be so different and unpredictable, I predict they will lose some games they are supposed to win and win some games they are supposed to lose.

Casey Dick will surprise folks with his throwing ability. Petrino won’t have it any other way. If Dick doesn’t perform, Petrino will find someone who can. But as I said, that shouldn’t be a problem. He will put up a lot of yards, but will throw for a lot of interceptions too.

Here’s the 2008 schedule and my predictions:

Western Illinois (win 21-10)
Louisiana-Monroe (win 30-14)
Texas (lose 27-13)
Alabama (lose 34-20)
Florida (lose 28-21)
Auburn (lose 14-10)
Kentucky (win 34-31)
Ole Miss (win 28-14)
Tulsa (win 40-36)
South Carolina (lose 18-16)
Miss State (win 36-21)
LSU (lose 30-17)

Final season record: 6-6
SEC record: 3-5
